Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of attending one of the first photography experiences presented by the lovely Angela Buchanan @thebirdphotog at the @hillswildlifesanctuary with the focus on birds.
Within this private sanctuary (not open to the public), we got up close & personal with a tawny frogmouth, red-tailed black cockatoo, bush stone-curlew, magpie, kookaburras & emus.
Angela set photo challenges and gave tips on changeable lighting conditions, moving subjects & how to make artistic depth of field & composition choices.
We were also spoilt by the wild birds flitting around the grounds, from wattle birds to fairy wrens!
It was heartwarming hearing the background stories on why the birds are here and we saw first hand the sanctuary’s dedication to wildlife conservation.

I am keen to use my own photographs for my paintings as I like all my work to have authenticity and integrity so this experience provided me with this education.
I will have to do much practice though to hone my skills but I was really thrilled with a lot of the pictures that I took and have included some here.

I had the most amazing experience at this course in this beautiful pristine environment. My beautiful husband gave me a gorgeous camera for Christmas which I’m still trying to learn how to use but Angela provided so much patience and assistance and I also met a lovely lady called Wendy who was my buddy as we both have Canon cameras. Thank you Wendy for also being so patient and calm with me and so generous with your time and knowledge. Can’t wait to catch up with you @wendycoombesphotography to have some photographic fun when our work schedules calm down! 👏
